**Tax Receipts for Donations for SACC**

We are pleased to announce that in April of 2020, confirmation was received by our hard-working volunteer, Ellen Unger, who applied to the BC Amateur Sport Fund on our behalf. This is a wonderful opportunity to provide our supporters with the ability to receive tax receipts for donations made to support the Salmon Arm Curling Club through BCASF.

The BC Amateur Sport Fund is the BC chapter of the Canadian Council of Provincial & Territorial Sport Federations, a Registered Canadian Amateur Athletics Association with charitable status. Your gift to the Fund benefiting the SACC will allow us to continue to operate the Curling Club . . . keeping programs accessible to children, families and adults looking to participate for recreation and/or competition.

Thank you to Ellen for her dedication to our Club and providing a crucial avenue to encourage and secure contributions. Your gift directly impacts present and future generations of the community.

Thank you to all who contribute. The future is in our hands.

SALMON ARM CURLING CENTRE: CLOSED FOR THE SEASON
March 16, 2020

After much consideration, our Board of Directors has made the decision to suspend leagues, practice ice, bonspiels, programs and events, effective immediately, due to rising concern regarding the COVID-19 virus. As advised by public health officials, it is important to make every effort to “flatten the curve” and protect health and safety in our community.

We will begin removing the ice as soon as our icemaker is ready to do so.

The club will be open until Friday, March 21st. While the office is open, members may pick up items left at the club or in their lockers. We are asking that ALL lockers get cleaned out as we will be doing renovations this summer. If your locker is not open we will have to cut the lock and remove items, we are hopeful that we don’t need to resort to these measures.
If you are unable to come before this time please reach out for assistance.

In regard to closing the Club, we trust that members understand the need for this strong step and we appreciate their patience as we work through the details. We will provide updates as developments occur. In the meantime, if anyone has any questions, please contact the office.

Please follow public health guidelines and stay healthy!

Great curling + Great food + Great camaraderie = fun, fun, fun!

The 2020 Mixed Bonspiel Champion was the Dave Long rink with lead Terry Taylor , second Chad Hagel, third Tracey Latosky (yes . . . Terry and Tracey are twins!). They prevailed over Jenn Gerow’s mixed foursome of Brad Case, Dana Seghers and Jeff Chesholm.

Full House at SACC Junior Spiel

Once again, it was a full house as 24 teams with curlers from Salmon Arm, Lake country, Kamloops, Armstrong, Kelowna, and Lumby participated in the SACC Junior Bonspiel, Feb 15-16. Theme this year: Classic Board Games. So much fun, good food (Domino’s pizza supper, pulled pork for adults) and door prizes, door prizes, door prizes for all - literally. Every curler received a door prize. And on top of that were 31 costume prizes and 36 adult door prizes for parents!

While the smiles and laughter during the bonspiel were the measure of success, the curling was competitive and the winners of the Advanced Division were awarded the Dave Belway Senior Memorial Trophy.

Thank you to the families of the SACC Junior Program for all your help. And, our heartfelt thanks to our Sponsors . . . we can’t do it without them.

VERY COOL:
Signage helped guide 96 kids, their families and spectators to sort their food scraps (feed the chickens!), soft/hard plastic, paper and cardboard, as well as compost items (any paper plates, napkins, paper coffee cups, pizza boxes that had touched food). The Challenge: to eliminate compost and recyclables from unnecessarily going to Landfill. Just one bag of garbage over 2 days? Success!!

January 24-26, the Salmon Arm Men’s and Ladies spiels hosted 24 men’s teams and 20 ladies’ teams with a Woodstock theme! Some great costumes including the VW Peace Bus, a variety of hippies and stoners, and even the farmer (and cows) on who’s land Woodstock was held. Oh, and there was some good curling, too!

Winners:

Ladies Division:
Championship: Kelsey Powell rink from Vernon
Second Event: Jenna Denton rink from Penticton
Third Event: Jen Gerow rink from SA

Mens Division:
Championship: Dave Long rink from SA
Second Event: Brad Case rink from Enderby/SA
Third Event: Ernie Paetsch rink from SA

The SACC would like to thank all who participated, all the Sponsors, and the many Volunteers who worked so very hard to make the event a big success!

Stick Curling Results:
January 12 saw 20 stick curling teams braving the cold and snow to converge on the Salmon Arm Curling Centre.
At the end of the day teams from each of the participating cities appeared in the prize column.
The teams were broken into 2 blocks. The team of Graf & Crosbie from Salmon Arm took the A Block while the team of Sears & Campbell from Armstrong took the B Block. The top ladies team was Sarowny & Farynuk from Enderby.

Thanks, Kathy Crosbie, for organizing!
