Thursdays @ 4:00pm
It is important that we do NOT relax our fight against Covid-19! We trust that you understand and do everything in your power to flatten the curve. Please read the September, 2020 newsletter as well as SACC’s plan for a safe return to curling. (click here) It details fees (Juniors have been shielded from a league fee increase but will now pay for CurlBC and Curling Canada affiliation fees (based on age).
Junior Curling will look and be a little different this year – in fact, our first day of curling has been put back . . . we are planning to start November 5th in order to better prepare.
We have just sent an email to families to detail the changes. For those children requiring curling shoes from the equipment room – we will schedule a couple of specific days (Sun Sept 27 1:00 to 2:00pm and Sun Oct 4 10:00am to noon) whereby families (only curlers and one parent please) attend to outfit their Junior with curling shoes. These will be signed out and returned when our season is complete on March 11, 2021.
At this time, SACC brooms will still be available for use but must be sanitized following use.
FUN and development of basic curling skills and self-esteem.
Kids are split into novice and intermediate groups based on age and skill.
- Instruction on basic to higher level skills depending on the capabilities and needs of the kids
- Games appropriate to the skill level of the group, including real game play
- Special event dates: Christmas, Jersey Day
- Participate in the Salmon Arm Skill Program and Curl BC Skills Award Program earning Curl BC skill badges
- Free access to curling shoes (if sizes available), grippers, brooms, delivery devices and sticks
Dick Mann, Kate & Darryl Horne, Eugene Roy, Brian Puetz, . . . all volunteers! It may sound like lots BUT we require a high instructor to junior ratio for safety and delivery of a great program! We would love to have YOUR help. If you feel you need some ‘basic training’ before you help out, Kate & Darryl Horne are both certified ‘coach trainers’ with Curl BC; they’d be happy to spend some time with you.
See above for 2020-21 practices around shoes and brooms.
Shoes will be signed out for the season and tagged. SACC brooms will be sanitized for use but we have a limited number of delivery devices. Brooms and delivery devices are available on first come basis but must remain at the club.
We encourage players to purchase their own. Proper fitting shoes with a well cared for slider make a world of difference to skill development.
NO JEANS, please! Curlers need stretchy pants to get into a proper slide position. SWEAT PANTS ARE GREAT! Dress warmly – gloves that don’t allow hands to slip down the broom (knitted gloves are too slippery), toques, layers are good.
Competitive Junior League Play
If your child is ready for more competitive play, the Inter City Curling League (2020-21 season unknown at this time) (see “downloads” below) may be right for your family (in addition to Salmon Arm Junior Curling).
In addition, SACC is pleased to be able to offer a Saturday Junior Skill Enhancement Program (see “downloads” below) that takes place over 10 Saturdays through the 2020/21 season!
