Our Goals
FUN and development of basic curling skills and self-esteem.
Our Program
Important distinction to note: this is a Program and not a League. Curlers are split into novice and intermediate groups based on age and skill. But unlike a league, kids in both groups are learning the game and only later progress to game play.
We Offer:
- Instruction on basic to higher level skills depending on the capabilities and needs of the kids
- Games appropriate to the skill level of the group, including real game play
- Special event dates: Christmas, Jersey Day
- Participate in the Salmon Arm Skill Program and Curl BC Skills Award Program earning Curl BC skill badges
- Free access to curling shoes (if sizes available), grippers, brooms, delivery devices and sticks
Instructors
Dick Mann, Lorelei Guidos, Kate & Darryl Horne . . . all volunteers! It may sound like lots BUT we require a high instructor to junior ratio for safety and delivery of a great program! We would love to have YOUR help. If you feel you need some ‘basic training’ before you help out, Kate & Darryl Horne are both certified ‘coach trainers’ with Curl BC; they’d be happy to spend some time with you.
Equipment
SACC’s Head Protection Policy requires all curlers under 12 wear CSA approved head protection or other head protection as recommended by Curling Canada. And all curlers up to and including age 14 are strongly encouraged to wear the same. Head protection must be supplied by the family.
Shoe fitting day: Thursday, Oct 10, 2024 4:00 to 6:00pm. First come – first served (some sizes are limited). Call Kate or Dick if you have any questions.
SACC shoes, brooms and delivery devices are available on first come basis but must remain at the club. Curlers will be invited to come to SACC (pre-season) to try on shoes and shoes will be tagged with curler’s name.
We encourage players to purchase their own. Proper fitting shoes with a well cared for slider make a world of difference to skill development.
Clothing
NO JEANS, please! Curlers need stretchy pants to get into a proper slide position. SWEAT PANTS ARE GREAT! Dress warmly – gloves that don’t allow hands to slip down the broom (knitted gloves are too slippery), toques, layers are good.
We are pleased to announce that the Edward Jones Thompson Okanagan Inter City Curling League begins this fall (see PDF below). This is offered as an option if your child is ready for more game play or more competitive play. The League schedule will be posted as soon as it’s available! BUT it starts in late October/early November here in SA – we need to know if you’re playing!!
