It’s 8:30AM, Feb 25, 2023 in Terrace, BC and Laura Tomlinson of SACC takes her seat, determined NOT to watch her son Austin curl in the Gold medal game at the Provincial Boys High School Curling Championships facing Grand Forks Secondary. It’s not that she is overly nervous . . . Laura is coaching the Penticton High School Girls team and they too are about to play Grand Forks Secondary in the Girls’ Gold Medal game.
Well perhaps she did get to take a peek or two at the boys game as her girls played strongly and shook hands in the 7th end winning Gold with a score of 9-2.
The boys’ (Sullivan campus) team of Kaiden Beck, Austin Tomlinson, Ryan Cowell, Brayan Morton, coached by Andrew Cowell, played in a tight nip & tuck final which went down to last rock. The Salmon Arm team led the field after round robin play with a perfect 6-0 record. They played well in the final, needing to steal the game in the 8th end. They left a tough draw to the button for the Grand Forks skip. The Grand Forks team rose to the challenge and secured Gold for their school.
Congratulations to Grand Forks Secondary and our own Sullivan team for bringing home the Silver . . . well done!
Congratulations also to Laura who Penticton was able to secure at the 11th hour to coach them at the event. Laura had previously coached lead Audrey Gosse and second Miranda Allen in a BC Winter Game Qualifier. Adding to this powerhouse team was third Rachel Lane and skip Erin Manning. Way to go girls!
