This tour is part of an ongoing exchange between Scottish and Canadian women’s curling associations with exchanges occurring every 5 years. 2025 is the 70th Anniversary of the Tour.
This year, 24 Scottish curlers traveled to British Columbia and in particular, one of their stops (#8) was SALMON ARM, BC! Click on the link below to meet the ladies and read their backgrounds.
Donna Shultz, Marlene Roy, Barb Puetz, Janice Hamp, Brenda M’Clellan and Nicole Reich (Chair) worked tirelessly on decorations and minute details to properly welcome our soon-to-be new friends from Scotland.
They didn’t fret even though the opening ceremonies was (justifiably) delayed as the lobby TV telecast the Men’s final from Tahoe where Scotland’s Team Mouat literally ‘edged’ (0.3 cm) Canada’s Team Dunstone for the win in the extra.
Led by 2 distinguished Shuswap Pipes and Drums pipers, the ladies lined both sides of Sheet #2 to cheer on Lois Angle (our oldest active curler) throw the ceremonial first rock, swept by Junior curlers Jana Mint and Callista Drury who guided it to the feet of our honorary broom holder Janny Merwin.
The girls were honored and soooo excited to be part of this event.
Then following 6 closely contested games, a delicious turkey dinner was very well received by all. (Thank you to Sue and her Suebee’s crew.) The table decorations were elegant and teams and tables of guests participated in the large photo booth . . . donning headgear, wigs, holding up hilarious signs. Photos to take home to share with both Salmon Arm and Scottish families.
Our new friends from Scotland sang a song and performed a skit that brought howls of laughter, thoroughly entertaining our Committee and 24 Salmon Arm curlers.
Then all our new friends boarded their bus and headed to Kelowna for their next stop which would then be followed by Vernon.
Haste ye back, Lassies . . . and siubhal sàbhailte (safe travels)!
